The capstone project has been overwhelming and stressing over all. Aside from the paper completing my hours actually wasn't a hassle. I actually enjoyed going to the place where I volunteered, which was at the spruce community learning center. I was practically a teachers assistant, I would help the children and the teachers with whatever they needed. If students had questions I would help them solve whatever they needed. If the teacher needed help setting up I would help, along with passing out papers and stuff along those lines.
I've gain many things from this experience, most importantly this made me realize that I actually do want to work with children in the future. My dream has always been to work with children in whatever field I chose to work in. I was pretty certain this was something I would like to do since I have experience with children due to the fact that's have 3 younger brothers and my grandma is a babysitter. This has let be around children and gave me a sense of what it takes to work with them. After being able to have the opportunity to work with children I realized that I do have the patience and I feel like I will succeed if I choose to work in a field with children.
My biggest obstacle was probably finding a mentor. I really wanted to find a mentor at a preschool or somewhere that worked with you get children, because the kids I worked with were fourth graders. In the long run this will be a positive thing because i have had experience with different ages. Another obstacle I had was trying not to be a friend to the children, instead I had to play the teacher role but it was hard at times because I had to be in a way strict, and I felt like that wasn't my place. As I continued my hours I realized that I had to be a role model for them so I kinda had to firm with them, and keep a friend relationship as well.
