Google.com can be used as a very good search engine, Google is known all over the world. Although Google can be a helpful tool, it can also be confusing and give you too many results. There is a tool on Google that can help you narrow down searches but you can also get better and more efficient results when you play around with words, capitalization, and using different words. My starting question was, how do the democratic republican oppositions on the “fiscal cliff differ”, and I got to narrow it down to only 8 results by using the techniques I learned.
My first technique was to play with the words around. But then I figured out that messing with the words around wasn’t going to help at all. This was giving me different results but it wasn’t giving me efficient results that I needed to answer my question. I needed to figure out something that would give me less so I started taking out words.
The next thing I tried doing was cutting off words and capitalizing some words. I then clicked on search tools and narrowed it down to posts that had only been posted 24 hours ago, and it narrowed it down to 8 results. My final search was Democratic AND republican "position on fiscal cliff". The website that helped me find my answer was http://apapromotions.com/commonsense/2012/11/30/fiscal-cliff-negotiations-its-time-for-republicans-to-just-walk-away/.
Although search engines give you the answers you need. They can also confuse you and not give you efficient results. They can overwhelm you with a lot of results and you won’t be able to find your answers sometimes. I know now how to narrow down searches and I can now find answers faster. This will really help me on my senior project.
